    Default UNIT IDEA: Mine Diggers?

    Hey, I just had this idea for a unit, either for Patriot or Phantom. It would have a very light main attack, fast speed, and low health and defense. However, it's ability is that it would be able to plant mines in the ground that explode when an enemy ground unit crosses over it's range, dealing high damage and/or stunning or hindering the units within range.

    As I had said, this would most likely be either a Patriot or Phantom unit, or possibly both, considering that this would most likely be used defensively or stealthily. I try to balance it by making the unit easy to kill, with almost no other attack. Also to balance it, the mines would have to take some time to become live, therefore making it harder to use on an offensive front. What do you all think?

    I have to hand it to you, this is a REALLY cool idea! The Greyhound from Company Of Heroes has the ability your talking about, maybe the Archimedes will have the ability to lay single mines to keep it balanced?

    You got it in many games, i verhicle that lays mines somewhere.

    I think this is a good idea but the stun would either have to be like .5 sec or non existent for it to balance at all i think. Would the mine digger be consumed in using it? It would be a cool idea as a tech vehicle and have it be a controllable robot that you can bury yourself wherever so that way people couldnt stack mines everywhere pregame.

    @Viper yeah, of course there would be limits to what it's able to do. I don't have a full understanding of game development (yet!), so it would be up to the professionals to properly balance it.

    Perhaps there can be more then one type of mine digger, one that stuns, one that deals damage, and maybe even one that weakens attack or defense of the units that it hits, like a nanobot mine or something...

    Well.. must to be 1 unit wich you can put a mine wich you can stun your enemies... 1 unit wich you can slow your enemies.. ETC. Yea... i think is a good ideea!

    Minefields would be cool, but more suited as an ability, since the mine laying unit would probably be more deadweight than useful.
