Hey guys,
So I finally woke up and as promised I'll tell a bit about what I learned at gamescon about
EoN.
Their booth was divided in 2 parts, one for end of nations and one for rift planes of telara. Upon entering we got greeted by some pretty cute girls/women given us the cards with a beta invite key for end of nations and rift. Mind you this beta key only gives you a chance to participate in open beta, it's not a given. So anyone who couldn't make it there , I'm pretty sure we are still on open footing for a place into the beta.
They had lots of stations for both games and a huge big screen tv (btw I want one) where they showcased the trailers. I can tell you they have a whole different atmosphere and effect watching them on that screen with big huge speakers pourring out the dialog. The end boss looked impressive as hell to.
The gamemode of the handsone was a skirmish battle 15 vs 15 I believe, I didn't really counted the players tbh. I was more interested in see how it plays out. You had a little army of tanks to your disposal as user demoxx and had to take over some control points from the other team. The gameplay itself was as you would expect from an RTS point to click where to go , move the camera , group units, etc... What it differed in was the huge bar full of abilities at the bottom. It was pretty overwhelming to be thrown into the game with that bar. But I'm pretty sure that in the final game you'll gain those abilities gradually.
There where a lot of people queuing for the pc's so I didn't stay on to long to give other people a chance to play. But before I went off I did check out the world conquer map. It really plays like a risk map with red vs blue where you could only engage the neighbouring country. What I saw was france hitting great brittan(including ireland and schotland). And what I think was Russia invading poland, but my geography might be a bit off and it could have been another country like white russia. Unfourtunatly most of the functionality on that world map didn't work so I let it be.
Later on I asked one of the rift guys there if Zamn the community repesentative was there, and he was more then eager to fetch HER for me. So what did we learn ? Never assume that all posters on forums are male, and inform yourself before you use "him" as adjective. The guy that went and get her for me was actually a pretty high placed person. He told me his title but ... I kinda forgot ... it was a long title and sounded pretty important. Zamn is a very nice and cheerfull person. She asked me if I could stay for the party, but unfourtunatly I had to go back to Belgium by train so I couldn't stay. But she did gave me and my brother 2 end of nations t-shirts. So whieeeeeeee I have an
EoN t-shirt !!!!
After meeting her, I stayed a bit at the booth trying to get my hands on a dev to ask those annoying questions

. And a few minutes later I hit hook, bait and sinker. Ofcourse he couldn't give to much information to me , since he wasn't entirly sure what had been released yet to the public and they are still sworn to secrecy about much of the stuff. But here are the questions I posed.
- How many sectors/regions will the world map have in total ?
He didn't knew what was released yet to the public , but he could state there would be lots of them available and there would always be something to do.
- Will I be able to come home from work, sit down and jump into the game without having to call LFG for hours ?
Here his answer was pretty straight , yes , there will always be something to do where you can just hot jump into. If you want this in a game
EoN is the game to be in
- How long have you been developing
EoN ?
He had to think a bit over this question, but eventually he came to 3 years, I spontaniously replied, that isn't very long for an MMO. Which made him kinda laugh on which he replied. Well it hasn't been released yet.
- SO you are concentrating on the gameplay and adding content later ?
This might have been an obvious question to pose, but this was indeed the case, they want to make the game balanced and fun first and then add more stuff (I presume maps) later on. I should have asked how long it takes them to make one map but it was so busy there that it slipped my mind.
- When will the open beta start ?
He said they where aiming for late november maybe early january. What we saw now at the booth was still very much pre alpha and a lot of work still needed to be done.
So then I had one more question to pose, but I asked that one to the producer
- When will the game be released ? Early 2011 or late 2011
"When it's finished, it's finished" ... rats figures ... hey I could only try
There you have it, a day around the devs and important people at trion.
Hope you enjoyed the read
